May 2025 Newsletter: Benefits of Dry Needling
Thank you to Dr. Josh Segal, PT, DPT & Dr. Shannon McPherson, PT, DPT for contributing this month!
Dry needling is a technique where thin needles are inserted into trigger points in muscles to relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance recovery. Unlike acupuncture, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling focuses on Western anatomy and physiology.
Benefits of Dry Needling:
1. Pain Relief: Targeted treatment of muscle knots can alleviate persistent pain and discomfort.
2. Improved Range of Motion: By relaxing tight muscles, dry needling can help restore mobility, making it easier to return to daily activities or sports.
3. Enhanced Recovery: This technique can speed up the recovery process after injuries by promoting blood flow and decreasing muscle tension.
4. Improved Muscle Function: By addressing dysfunctional muscle patterns, dry needling can improve overall performance and prevent future injuries.
If you’re dealing with chronic pain, tension, or recovering from an injury, dry needling may be a valuable addition to your treatment plan. As always, please consult with your physical therapist to see if this technique is right for you.
